Lupe Fiasco transforms into alter-ego Wasalu Jaco for his new musical endeavor Japanese Cartoon– a rock/punk/electro/hip-hop ensemble. The project features streetwear icon Le Messie (FALSE) as producer, Matthew Santos bassist Graham Burris and keyboardist Matt Nelson. Messie describes Japanese Cartoon as “a modern revival of the 70’s rebellious punk mindset” aiming to “systematically alter reality from the point of view of the masses.”

The musical elements of Japanese Cartoon consists of singing/rapping by Wasalu with an English twang stacked with bassy rhythms and punk riffs, but also ethereal trip-hop/electro beats. This ensemble not only exemplifies Lupe Fiasco as a diverse musician but also brings out the lesser heard talent of Le Messie as a producer.
